The American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), the Nation’s largest educational organization devoted to health law, has presented Peter A. Pavarini, a Squire Patton Boggs partner in the firm’s Global Health & Life Sciences Industry Group, with the 2017 David J. Greenburg Service Award. This annual award recognizes an individual who has shown great loyalty and has made significant contributions to the growth and life of AHLA throughout his or her career.

A long-time member of the AHLA, Mr. Pavarini has held numerous leadership positions within the Association, including serving as its President from 2014 to 2015, Chair of the Membership Committee, Vice Chair of the Hospitals and Health Systems Practice Group, and Executive Editor of AHLA’s ACO Handbook: A Guide to Accountable Care Organizations

Mr. Pavarini focuses his practice on the representation of hospitals and other healthcare providers in a wide range of strategic, regulatory and transactional matters, particularly physician alignment models and the development of clinically integrated provider organizations. He has devoted his entire legal career to addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by healthcare regulatory reforms and marketplace trends.

Mr. Pavarini is a frequent speaker and author on the transformation of the US healthcare system, and he has contributed his time and creativity to numerous boards and commissions advancing the public’s interest in achieving equitable access to healthcare. Additionally, Mr. Pavarini has taught at the collegiate and post-graduate levels for the past 35 years, including at Case Western Reserve University’s School of Law, and at The Ohio State University’s business, law and medical schools.

The award was named after David J. Greenburg, who was the founder of both the Academy of American Healthcare Attorneys (1967) and the National Health Lawyers Association (1971), the organizations that came together to form AHLA. Mr. Greenburg was interested in creating a specialty of health law, and he worked tirelessly to create a collegial community of professionals helping each other and the public.
