Stefanie Atchinson

Senior Associate

Stefanie is a specialist in infrastructure projects across a number of sectors including housing, healthcare and education. She acts for the whole range of project participants (funders, sponsors and contractors), meaning she has a well-rounded understanding of the issues from each participant's perspective.

Stefanie also has notable experience advising on secondary market transactions for infrastructure fund clients.

In 2014, Stefanie spent six months at Equitix, an infrastructure equity investor and asset manager, in a combined legal/commercial role.


Renewable Energy

  • Energy Savings Investments and Equitix Energy Efficiency – advising these two infrastructure funds on their combined £30 million investment in the Nottingham Combined Heat and Power Plant.
  • Energy Savings Investments and Equitix Energy Efficiency Fund – advising these two infrastructure funds on their combined £30 million investment in the construction and operation of the Blakenham Glasshouse Project (growing tomatoes) and the installation of a heat transmission line from the boundary of the SITA operated Waste to Energy facility.

Student Accommodation

  • Equitix – advising the sponsors (an Equitix, Derwent and Aston University consortium) on the transfer, acquisition and ongoing FM arrangements of the existing Aston University student accommodation (£240 million).
  • Uliving – advising the sponsors (an Equitix,  Bouygues Development and Derwent consortium) on Bath Court Student Accommodation Project in Birmingham (the demolition of an existing office building and construction of an 11-storey student accommodation building with 435 en-suite beds including ancillary facilities and a ground floor retail unit) (£35 million).
  • Equitix – advising the sponsors (an Equitix and Derwent joint venture) on the University of Shrewsbury Student Accommodation Project.
  • Equitix – advising the sponsors (an Equitix and Kier Project Investments joint venture) on the £30 million University of Bangor Student Accommodation PPP Project.


  • Carillion – advising the sponsors (an Equitix and Carillion joint venture) on Midlands Schools (Batch 5 of the Priority Schools Programme) whilst on secondment at Equitix (£190 million).
  • Sir Robert McAlpine – advising the sponsors (an Equitix, Forth Holdings and Sir Robert McAlpine consortium) on North East Schools (Batch 2 of the Priority Schools Programme) (£113 million).
  • Morgan Sindall Construction – advising Morgan Sindall in its role as Building Contractor on (i) Hertfordshire, Luton & Reading Schools (£140 million), (ii) Yorkshire Schools (£120 million) and (iii) North West Schools (£123 million) (Batches 1, 2 and 3 of the Priority Schools Programme). 


  • Equitix – advising the sponsors (an Equitix and Land Group joint venture) on a number of asset backed PPP schemes in Northern Ireland (primarily GP/care accommodation) (£80 million).
  • Equitix – advising the project sponsors (an Equitix and MedicX Healthcare joint venture) on three separate primary care centres in Dublin (valued at €30 million), providing infrastructure for doctors, the HSE, community nurses and pharmacists.

Operational Experience

  • Partners for Islington – offering ongoing legal advice to two operational Housing PFI projects including reviewing of current PFI arrangements with a view to achieving better VfM and operational issues.
  • S4B Limited – ongoing advice on operational issues for Brunswick Housing PFI such as Stopping Up orders, LADs and sub-contractor disputes.


  • Equitix – advising the sponsors (a Symphony Housing - Galliford Try - Equitix consortium) on the £83 million bond finance Brunswick social housing PFI Project which is a significant mixed use, mixed tenure scheme to Financial Close.
  • Regenter Limited – advising the sponsors (a Pinnacle Housing and John Laing joint venture) on the £150 million Lambeth HRA housing PFI and regeneration scheme to Financial Close.

Secondary Market Work

  • Equitix – advising on a number of primary care centre secondary market acquisitions in the Republic of Ireland.
  • John Laing Infrastructure Fund – carrying out project due diligence and on a number of secondary market acquisitions in the housing, health and education sectors including intra-group and third party acquisitions.
  • Equitix Limited – advising on two significant secondary market acquisitions which include street lighting, education, health and leisure assets.
