James is an associate in the Restructuring & Insolvency Practice based in the London office. James primarily acts on behalf of Insolvency Practitioners, secured lenders, distressed companies and private individuals and routinely advises on a range of both contentious insolvency disputes and non-contentious insolvency related matters.

His experience involves conducting a variety of corporate recovery actions on behalf of clients including applications concerning delivery up, wrongful and fraudulent trading and antecedent transactions. James also has experience with handling commercial litigation matters and in particular conducting successful without notice applications for freezing injunctions.

Prior to joining the firm, James worked for a niche City Insolvency Litigation practice.

  • Acting for the administrators and subsequent liquidators of a large construction company in relation to several antecedent transactions and a large misfeasance claim against a former director.
  • Acting for various companies in respect of Company Voluntary Arrangements.
  • Advising on various aspects of IP generally in the context of corporate insolvencies including the assignment of goodwill in insolvency sales.
  • Drafting insolvent business sale/purchase agreements and advising both office holders and purchasers in respect of such transactions.
  • Acting for the Ninth Defendant in the InnovatorOne litigation (Brown v. Innovator One plc [2012] EWHC 1321 (Comm)).
  • Advising on £14 million debt claim and obtained judgment against a former trader of a CFD broker in liquidation. Advised client as to difficulties in enforcement in Indonesia. Liaised with local lawyers in Indonesia to obtain advice on behalf of client. Instructed local lawyers to serve judgment. Assisted with ongoing advice to Liquidation Committee as to matters in liquidation generally.
