David is a director in the Labour & Employment Practice. He advises a wide range of clients on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law across a variety of sectors, including tech, fintech, defence and government services, consulting, media and advertising, sports and financial services. He also is particularly experienced in dealing with global and multijurisdictional matters and projects, both as outside counsel and on “virtual” secondment.

David’s day-to-day practice involves advising in-house counsel and HR professionals on a wide variety of global issues, including difficult disciplinary and grievance issues; the planning and implementation of global redundancy programmes; executive recruitment and severances; and managing long-term ill health and capability in the workplace. In addition, David has significant experience in dealing with contentious litigation within both the Employment Tribunals and the High Court, including seeking and defending injunctive relief applications across a variety of sectors.

David is a part of a number of the firm's labour and employment initiatives, including leading the DSAResolution team managing client data subject access requests and being a key member of initiatives relating to mental health and wellbeing, neurodiversity and our award-winning Global Edge product.

In addition to his roles within the firm, David is Chair of the Training Committee of the UK Employment Lawyers’ Association and a member of its Management Committee.

  • Advising a respondent client in a complex multi-day employment tribunal proceeding relating to employment status, jurisdictional issues, unfair dismissal, discrimination, TUPE and collective consultation.
  • Advising clients on non-competition and restrictive covenant issues, including High Court litigation and social media, publicity and PR matters.
  • Advising clients on UK and global business transfers and in-/outsourcings, including TUPE, Acquired Rights Directive and other issues including redundancies and harmonisation, including the outsourcing of over 4,500 employees across more than 100 countries.
  • Advising on the employment aspects of a number of high-profile retail, leisure and other insolvencies.
  • Advising a number of global tech and fintech clients on employment issues globally.
  • Project-managing a number of multijurisdictional in- and out-sourcings for clients across the media, defence and marketing services industries.
  • Advising on a number of global acquisitions in the Sports and Entertainment industries, including several Premier League football clubs and representation agencies.
  • Advising on the acquisition and disposal of several key energy and natural resources-related businesses.
  • Advising a number of high-level individuals in the financial services and commodities industries on their exit packages and contractual arrangements.
  • Assisting global clients with drafting and issuing employment contracts and handbooks across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advising Premier League football teams and Premiership rugby clubs in relation to various employment issues.
  • Managing data subject access requests tied to high-value High Court litigation brought by a senior executive.
