Squire Patton Boggs’ Alex Shumate Named to Lawyers of Color’s 2015 Power List

Alex Shumate, managing partner, North America of Squire Patton Boggs, has been named to Lawyers of Color’s Fourth Annual Power List, a comprehensive catalog of the nation’s most influential minority lawyers and non-minority diversity advocates. It is the second year in a row that Shumate has appeared on the list.

Shumate will be honored at a reception March 18 at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel (Georgetown) in Washington, D.C., and will be profiled in Lawyers Of Color's Power Issue 2015.

“I am honored to join so many distinguished lawyers who have contributed to the legal profession in so many ways,” Shumate said. “I deeply appreciate being able to represent Squire Patton Boggs on the list.”

At Squire Patton Boggs, Shumate’s duties include providing strategic and operational guidance in pursuing new business opportunities regionally, nationally and internationally and in addressing issues arising from Squire Patton Boggs’ 16 offices across the United States.

He is also a leader of the legislative counseling and administrative law activities of the firm, where he counsels clients in business regulatory and legislative matters involving local, state and federal governments.

Previously, he served as chief counsel and deputy chief of staff to the governor of the State of Ohio and as assistant Ohio attorney general.

Shumate has been selected by his peers since 1999 for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, recognizing his legal abilities among esteemed lawyers nationwide. He was named Best Lawyers' 2013 Columbus-OH “Government Relations Practice Lawyer of the Year.” He has also been consistently selected as an Ohio Super Lawyer.

Shumate is a Fellow of the Ohio State Bar Association and a former member of the Columbus Bar Association’s Board of Governors. He is a life member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference.
