Squire Patton Boggs has for the third consecutive year been ranked by Law360 as a “Global 20” firm. The list recognizes the 20 law firms that had “the biggest global presence and handled the most large, significant and groundbreaking international and cross-border matters over the past year,” according to the publication. The firm was also the subject of a profile by Law360, which can be viewed here (subscription required).
The firm’s June 2014 combination that brought together Squire Sanders and Patton Boggs was a central theme of the profile. According to Law 360, “Few firms saw their global reach expand more over the past year than Squire Patton Boggs, which spawned from the merger of two of the world’s most prominent firms to become a powerhouse in Washington, Europe and the Middle East.”
Law360 noted that as a result of the firm’s merger it has, “managed to increase its representations of both sovereign nations and companies in matters ranging from lobbying governments, to complex litigation and arbitration, to white collar defense and investigations.”
“By virtue of our [Squire Sanders] platform marrying some of the best-in-class practices of Patton Boggs, we’ve seen validation of the combination strategy extensively over the last year,” commented Squire Patton Boggs Chairman and Global CEO Mark Ruehlmann.
Also emphasized by Law360 was the firm’s “decades of experience in the Middle East – as well as its four offices in Doha, Qatar; Abu Dhabi and Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia,” which have “proved to be a boon for the merged firm.”
Peter Crossley, Squire Patton Boggs’ managing partner for Europe and the Middle East commented, “The Middle East and its connectivity with Europe and the U.K. has been a big piece for us. There has been a very significant amount of work going both ways, but in particular from our new colleagues in the Middle East to those of us in Europe.”
Squire Patton Boggs now has more than 1,500 attorneys in 44 offices in 21 countries, with 28 of those locations in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
