Squire Patton Boggs partners Barbara P. Alonso and Awilda M. Alcántara Bourdier were named among the leading female lawyers specializing in Latin America from international law firms by Latinvex, Latin America’s leading business publication.
Latinvex’s editorial staff selected winners based on a combination of factors, including recent track record on major deals and business, prominence of firm in Latin America and individual rankings by third parties such as Chambers and Partners, The Legal 500 and Thomson Reuters. The annual list of “Latin America’s Top 100 Female Lawyers” recognized Ms. Alonso in the categories of Banking & Finance, Capital Markets, Corporate/M&A and Energy Work, and Ms. Bourdier in Corporate/M&A.
Ms. Alonso’s practice focuses on domestic and cross-border transactions, including corporate finance, debt and equity capital markets, and project finance and public-private partnerships (P3s). She guides clients in a wide range of domestic and cross-border corporate and corporate finance transactions and has extensive experience in representing a variety of financial institutions and borrowers in both syndicated and bilateral credit facilities and asset-based and other secured and unsecured debt transactions. In the energy sector, she has represented sponsors in financing the development of renewable energy projects. Ms. Alonso sits on the Steering Committee of the Hispanic Lawyers Society of New York and is a board member of the Hispanic National Bar Foundation. She is a co-founder of SEED, a not-for-profit education foundation that partners with Miami-Dade County schools to support international public education initiatives in South Florida.
Ms. Alcántara-Bourdier focuses her practice on mergers and acquisitions, corporate law and tax matters. She has significant experience representing multinational clients regarding the structuring of their business interests and investments in the Dominican Republic, primarily in the electric, financial services, manufacturing and construction sectors, as well as in general project finance. Ms. Alcántara-Bourdier teaches Mergers and Acquisitions at the Master’s Program in business law and international litigation jointly offered by the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, Spain and is a frequent speaker on issues related to corporate law.
