Gassan Baloul represents clients involved in a wide range of complex cross-border commercial litigation or facing federal administrative and regulatory proceedings. He advises U.S.-based as well as multi-national clients from a variety of industries, including banking, finance, telecommunications, and insurance.

In much of his work, he represents clients facing federal proceedings, including those initiated by the Department of Justice; Department of Treasury, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Office of Foreign Assets Control, and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.

Gassan has significant trial experience, participating in the defense of federal lawsuits involving mass tort claims, complex banking issues, international law and issues involving the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Alien Tort Statute. He has also worked on substantial appellate matters.

  • A leading insurance company based in Europe, with real estate interests in Egypt and Lebanon. This matter involved the filing of 170 lawsuits in Egypt and Lebanon to recover fraudulently conveyed properties, and cooperation with local authorities in the prosecution of criminal charges.
  • Prominent businessmen based in the Middle East and other countries around the globe in regulatory proceedings before the U.S. Treasury Department, Office of Foreign Assets Control.
  • Represented one of the largest European telecommunications companies in a multi-billion dollar breach of contract dispute tried in the Southern District of New York.
  • Advised financial institutions on compliance with U.S regulatory frameworks, including the Patriot Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA).
