Ivan Rothman has significant experience in all intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions, and drafting and negotiating IP provisions in transaction documents. His experience also includes drafting and negotiating a wide range of IP- and IT-related agreements, including patent cross-license agreements, development agreements, SaaS and outsourcing agreements and strategic alliance and joint venture agreements, in the biopharmaceutical, medical device, computer, semiconductor and other industries. He also has experience preparing template agreements for technology clients. Ivan has represented numerous US-based and non-US-based companies, including both Fortune 500 companies and startups, in such matters. Ivan also has significant experience and expertise in all aspects of open source software development, contracting and management.

Additionally, Ivan’s practice focuses on privacy and data protection law. He has attended to a wide range of privacy and security related matters, including preparing privacy policies, advising on privacy and security-related audits, advising on compliance with security breach notification statutes and providing general counsel regarding US federal and state privacy laws, including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, California’s SB1 and the California Online Privacy Protection Act.

From 1998 to 2003, Ivan was an associate in our Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. Immediately prior to returning as of counsel in 2012, Ivan provided general counsel services to a market-leading software company in San Francisco including legal risk management, legal compliance and interdepartmental coordination and collaboration with the parent entity and its affiliates. While in-house, he attended to a broad range of technology-related and general commercial agreements including software licenses, support and hosting services agreements, confidentiality agreements, distribution and reseller agreements and commercial lease agreements.

Prior to joining the firm in 1998, Ivan worked as a lawyer at a leading intellectual property law firm in Israel where he counseled both national and international companies in a variety of intellectual property matters including licensing, trademark prosecution and enforcement,  copyright protection and IP infringement litigation.
