Takujiro Urabe focuses his practice on corporate matters including venture capital and mergers and acquisitions. He has actively consulted with clients in the telecommunications, aviation, technology and software industries.

His experience includes advising a non-Japan-based company in establishing and implementing its wireless business in Japan, negotiating landing rights for a US airline into Japan as well as  advising on a corporate governance and compliance matter involving an investment in Japan.

In 2006 he moved to the United States to attend The George Washington University for his LL.M. He was admitted to practice in New York and spent one year in the Los Angeles office of Squire Patton Boggs before returning to the Tokyo office in 2008.

  • Advising in the sale of a worldwide diagnostics business by one of Japan's largest digital imaging product manufacturers to a US-based leading manufacturer of biomedical testing instruments systems.
  • Representing a large global distributor of electronic parts in its acquisition of a distributor in Japan.
  • Representing an investment organization of a large semiconductor chip maker in its investment in venture companies in Japan.
  • Providing legal advice to a global US-based aircraft manufacturer with regard to obtaining licenses/approvals necessary to provide internet connection services on airplanes in Japan.
  • Developing and implementing regulatory strategies for a US-based aircraft manufacturer to obtain Japanese licenses for an in-flight Internet connectivity service.
  • Representing a US-based airline in securing landing rights, negotiating maintenance contracts, establishing operations and registering their trademarks in Japan.
  • Negotiating on behalf of a Japanese subsidiary of a US-based avionics company to obtain Japanese licenses for in-flight broadband wireless Internet connectivity services to be offered by the Japanese flag carrier.
  • Representing the national carrier of Chile in obtaining landing rights, securing maintenance contracts, establishing operations and handling disputes with their general sales agent (GSA).
