We are pleased to again participate in the International Performance Management Institute’s (IPMI) Healthcare Law & Compliance Institute on March 3 – 5, 2019.
Sven Collins, Elliot Golding and Anne Harrington will present on the topic, “New Frontiers in Healthcare Data - Reaping the Rewards and Navigating the Risks,” from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4. They will be joined by Morgan Honea, the Chief Executive Officer of Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO), one of the leading health information exchange organizations in the US. This session will focus on how companies can proactively use health data and new technologies to improve patient outcomes, reduce costs and otherwise support business needs – while still complying with the complex patchwork of applicable privacy/cybersecurity and other laws and regulations.
The session will explore:
- Key legal and practical issues when using population health/consumer outreach tools, connected health devices and data from multiple sources, including social determinants of health data for improved care coordination
- The types of relationships and business structures involved, including contracting and vendor management strategies
- Tips for harmonizing the patchwork of state and federal laws (including the recent California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018) and a look at how upcoming federal policy and regulatory changes could impact and facilitate health care data interoperability
- Pitfalls to avoid — in addition to the obvious privacy law risks, there are other significant potential regulatory risks such as Stark and Anti-Kickback risks
