    Artificial intelligence (AI) is creating new challenges for lawyers, and learning how to adapt typical legal activities when a matter involves AI is quickly becoming a critical skill. This self-paced program will introduce participants to the particularities of matters involving AI, and participants will learn how to adjust their legal or internal practice when AI issues are involved. Participants will also gain an understanding of AI — what it is and general uses of it in businesses and law firms today — in order to help them understand their clients’ needs and represent their clients. Further, participants will learn how certain AI cases are being litigated in court so they can use past rulings to develop successful strategies for their clients. And finally, participants will also receive advice and best practices from lawyers on how to adapt their typical legal activities when a matter involves AI.

    While this program will focus on an incident involving an autonomous vehicle, also known as an AV or “self-driving car,” the incident responses and litigation approach are broadly applicable to other AI contexts. This program will not focus exclusively on a particular state AV law, but assumes general negligence and strict products liability principals will apply, and will touch on common themes from the various AV laws, when appropriate.
