Financing Innovative Activities: Opportunities for Russia

    Innovation has always been considered one of the main tools of progress. Unlike other countries, Russia paid little attention to private mechanisms for financing innovative activities, but the situation is different now. A recently set up, on the basis of a special Federal Law, Russian Corporation for Nanotechnologies (Rosnano) has as its main objective the development and promotion of innovative activities and nanotechnologies in particular.

    In this Russian-language article in the May 2009 issue of Corporate Lawyer Olga Bezrukova and Vladimir Elizarov provide a comprehensive review of different forms and tools for financing innovative activities in foreign states and make a comparative analysis of the provisions of the Federal law “On Russian Corporation for Nanotechnologies” identifying the financial tools appropriate for Rosnano’s legal status and scope of competence and especially focusing their attention on venture capital financing mechanisms.
