John J. Reilly examines the prospects for ratification of the Law of the Sea Treaty in light of wind energy project development in the US. The treaty, which would protect US maritime interests and investments in wind energy, dates back to 1982, but has never been ratified by the US. According to John, the recent proliferation of planned offshore wind farm projects, many of which will be built beyond US territorial waters, may provide the incentive needed for ratification.
