Center for International Law - ICPC Workshop on the Protection of Submarine Cables

    The Centre for International Law and the International Cable Protection Committee held in Singapore in April 2011 issued the co-chair's report for a Workshop on the Protection of Submarine Cables.  The workshop was attended by diplomats from the United Nations, the International Seabed Authority, ASEAN countries, India, China, Australia and New Zealand in addition to the operators and installers of the world's submarine cable networks.

    Douglas Burnett of Squire Sanders Maritime Practice Group co-chaired the workshop and co-authored the provisional report that highlights need actions at national, regional and international levels to improve the security and reduce risks to submarine cables, critical infrastructure for the global economy, responsible for more than 95 percent of all international voice, data and video transmissions.
