On May 12, 2011, the White House sent a long-awaited series of cybersecurity legislative proposals to Congress. The proposals include provisions requiring companies to have detailed cybersecurity plans and address privacy, data breach and data security matters. Given the breadth of the issues included in the White House proposals, along with existing bills Congress is already working on, it is clear that cybersecurity reform and regulations, as well as enhanced reporting, are on the immediate horizon. These changes will significantly impact companies across the spectrum, including government contractors. Included among the changes will be the need to update compliance programs, expand reporting activities and rework business processes.
