With the General Assembly’s passage of Substitute House Bill No. 369 on December 14, 2011, the long-debated election calendar for 2012 has been settled.
Sub. H.B. 369 eliminates the June 12, 2012 primary election established by Sub. H.B. 318, and establishes March 6, 2012, as the date of the single primary election in 2012. Sub. H.B. 369 also reinstates the August 7, 2012 special election. School districts are able to submit tax levy and bond issue questions at elections on August 7, 2012 and November 6, 2012. In short, the 2012 election calendar is now set exactly as it was prior to the commencement of this year’s redistricting debate and related legislative enactments.
For those school districts that have taken proceedings and made the filings necessary to submit a tax levy or bond issue question to the voters on March 6, no further action need be taken at this time. It should be noted that the filing deadline for the March 6 election was December 7, 2011; those school districts electing not to submit a tax levy or bond issue question on March 6 must now wait until, at the soonest, the August 7 election.
An updated election calendar for the balance of available election dates in 2012 is now available.
