The International Trade Commission (ITC) this week issued a significant ruling in favor of Apple Inc. banning the import of certain HTC mobile telephones. The decision found that HTC infringed an Apple patent regarding the formatting of data in otherwise unstructured documents (such as emails) allowing users to interact with them. The ITC, however, ruled that the exclusion order will not take effect until April 19, 2012, giving HTC time to remove the feature from its phones or to settle the dispute. The ITC also found that HTC did not infringe two other patents-in-suit, pertaining to real-time signal processing.
