Head of the Pensions Practice, Clifford Sims, has co-authored a white paper, published by the Society of Pension Professionals (SPP), on "How to unleash the power of social impact investing". Social impact investing is a form of responsible investing. Instead of negative screening out of certain types of investments, social impact investing means taking positive action to invest in socially valuable activities, from providing clean water to fighting poverty and encouraging healthier lifestyles. Many pension trustees are confused about the extent to which they could/should undertake social impact investments. The SPP’S white paper looks at the confusion surrounding social impact investing, sets out how trustees could introduce a social impact investment policy and makes some recommendations for making social impact investing more viable. If you would like to discuss any of the issues raised in this white paper, please contact Clifford Sims.
