Foreign ownership restrictions have traditionally been the greatest single impediment to foreign direct investment (FDI) in the Gulf region. On 2 July 2019, this changed in dramatic fashion with the announcement by the Federal Cabinet of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of a significant opening of the UAE markets to foreign investors, a radical and positive change in direction for the country.
