NSW Building Reforms: Design and Building Practitioners Bill 2019 Introduced Into NSW Parliament

    October 2019

The Design and Building Practitioners Bill 2019 was introduced to the NSW Parliament on 23 October 2019 in response to the recommendations made in the Shergold/Weir Report addressing compliance and enforcement issues facing the building and construction industry. The Bill will affect design and building practitioners and aims to rebuild public confidence that the industry can deliver compliant and safe buildings which will perform to the expected standards. Among the key new reforms introduced by the Bill is the imposition of a statutory duty of care owed to land owners by any person who carries out construction work.
