Are you a public body with vacant or under-used property? Or a developer or individual with an eye on vacant public land? If so, a current government consultation is likely to be of interest. The proposals seek to enhance existing public powers to apply for a direction to dispose of public land where it is under utilised. Public bodies, including local authorities and statutory undertakers will need to consider responses carefully, given the enthusiasm with which the consultation is likely to be received by individuals, developers and housing suppliers. See our briefing note on the “Right to Regenerate: Reform of the Right to Contest” if you want to find out why you should respond.
