What Are Ethics and Why Are We Talking About Them?

    Various events over recent years (Black Lives Matter, #metoo, climate change and a global pandemic) have increased demands for transparency and accountability from businesses and the wider society. Driven by the media, the public, regulation and investors (to name a few), business ethics have secured a prominent place on the corporate agenda. As a result, businesses are assessing their internal affairs and evaluating their policies, compliance programmes and procedures to ensure their behaviours are judged as “ethical”.

    With so much talk of ethics, and increasing scrutiny of corporate behaviour, we examine why ethics are so important, how they have risen in corporate prominence and the impact they have on financial health.
