Warsaw, Poland – Global law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey (Squire Sanders Święcicki Krześniak sp. k.) has announced the addition of two tax experts from Gide Loyrette Nouel. Associates Tomasz Hatylak and Aneta T. Kowalska join a busy and thriving team of lawyers, which increased its numbers last year with the addition of seven lawyers from Baker & McKenzie’s Warsaw office.
Hatylak is highly regarded in the Polish market. Previously head of tax at Gide’s Warsaw office, he is recognised in Chambers Global 2008 as being a leader in his field and one client described working with his team as “an excellent experience…results can always be counted on.” Another client described Hatylak’s advice as “quick and efficient” and “he always does his best to find a solution that fits the client.” He is also recommended in the recently published European Legal Experts 2008.
Kevin T. Connor, head of Squire Sanders’ Warsaw office, commented, “We welcome Tomasz and Aneta on board – this is an exciting next phase of growth for the Warsaw office. We’re confident that this latest move will contribute to positioning us as one of the strongest legal advisory teams in Poland, which provides the full range of services to business operating in Poland or with interests in the region. We expect to see further growth as the momentum continues.”
Hatylak is experienced in all aspects of legal tax advice including VAT, CIT, financial services’ taxation and tax litigation, as well as supervising tax audits and tax planning projects. Clients that Hatylak has advised include Pirelli RE, BNP Paribas, Dalkia SA and Enterprise Investors.
In July 2007, Squire Sanders strengthened its team with partners Tomasz Ujejski, Peter Swiecicki and Eligiusz J. Krzesniak as well as Tomasz J. Stawecki, of counsel, from the Warsaw office of Baker & McKenzie. Each is a leader in his field and collectively, they add strength to each of the firm’s main practices in Poland: corporate (including private equity), banking and finance (especially real estate finance and project finance), energy and telecoms. The Warsaw team also has full EU advisory capability including expertise in competition, insolvency and restructuring, and dispute resolution. Since July, additional lawyers from Baker & McKenzie have joined the team in Warsaw: senior associate Marcin Studzinski, who focuses on developer-side representation in major projects, along with working for contractors and on real estate matters, and Sergiusz Ciolkowski, of counsel, and Malgorzata R. Wieczorek, registered legal trainee, in banking and finance.
Squire Sanders’ Warsaw lawyers possess a wealth of experience and several are recognised as experts in their fields. Collectively, they serve on the faculty of the University of Warsaw, have written leading treatises on company law, public registries and secured transactions, have lectured at numerous professional seminars and have published articles on their areas of expertise. The team includes a cofounder and member of the board of The Polish Association of Law & Economics who serves as an expert to the Ministry of Justice on legal reform. Collectively, they speak Polish, English, German, French, Spanish and Russian.
