Published by Chambers & Partners, the guide is based on extensive interviews with business leaders and lawyers to develop rankings by country, region and practice area.
Here is what Chambers Global research concluded about the work done by Squire Sanders lawyers in Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Hungary, Poland, Russia, the Slovak Republic and Venezuela.
Banking and Finance
Squire Sanders’ banking and finance lawyers in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) are commended for their “commercial and common-sense approach” that centers on successfully integrating a network of legal talent to handle multijurisdictional financings. As one client commented, “you can call people in any office and they are always up to date.”
Lawyers ranked in banking and finance in Europe include Vladimira N. Papirnik (Czech Republic), Kevin T. Connor (Hungary), Tomasz J. Stawecki (Poland) and Roman Prekop (Slovak Republic). The banking and finance practices in Hungary and Venezuela are also ranked in Chambers Global. In addition, the guide also cited the “great responsiveness and attention to detail” provided by the corporate practice in Venezuela.

Hartnett is described as “a reliable choice for any competition matter.” Chambers Global added that the firm’s regional CEE practice has “highly-respected competition lawyers in its extensive network of Eastern European offices.” The guide noted the lawyers represent a global client base on a complete range of competition matters. Clients working with CEE competition lawyers praised the lawyers’ “timely and precise advice” and ability to mesh CEE and European Union law.
Corporate/Mergers and Acquisitions
Chambers Global ranking of Squire Sanders corporate work ranges from offices in Central and Eastern Europe and Russia to the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
The guide praises the firm’s CEE regional corporate and private equity work, noting the corporate lawyers demonstrate “real commitment to and interest in the region,” while the regional private equity practice combines “international knowledge and good local understanding.” Corporate clients in the Czech Republic commented on the firm’s “dynamic and experienced” work, while the our corporate lawyers in Hungary make “a strong impression” in M&A and complex cross-border transactions. Lawyers in Poland provide “attentive, reliable service” and the Russia-based lawyers have a “good reputation for private equity and corporate matters” as well as capital markets work. Clients working with the Slovak Republic office value the combination of local knowledge and international expertise, the guide states, adding the lawyers there know how to “approach a matter in an international environment.” In Latin America, the lawyers in Dominican Republic have “the backing of the strong worldwide name, but maintain a suitable local touch – particularly in bridging local differences,” while the Venezuela-based corporate lawyers provide “consistently positive results.”

Alcántara Bourdier and Rhina M. Martinez Brea, along with Hernando Diaz-Candia and Juan José Delgado in Venezuela.

The practice in Russia is noted for advice on mining projects and restructuring in the Russian energy sector.
