Global law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. has named new leadership for two firm offices. John A. Burlingame has become managing partner for its Washington DC office, and John E. Thomas has become managing partner for the firm’s Tysons Corner office. Burlingame and Thomas succeed Joseph P. Markoski, who will be relocating to London to coordinate the firm’s European practice.
“As gateways to the world of global business, Washington DC and Tysons Corner are key markets for multinational and regional businesses as well as clients whose activities intersect with the federal government,” said Squire Sanders Chairman R. Thomas Stanton. “Squire Sanders has been in this dynamic region since 1973, providing clients with knowledgeable advice and counsel. I am confident our tradition of service and creative problem-solving will continue under John and John’s leadership.”
The firm’s Washington DC office has recently expanded its international trade practice and governmental affairs capabilities. Former US trade official David M. Spooner joined the firm earlier this year. He works closely with Squire Sanders Public Advocacy, the firm’s legislative lobbying and public policy affiliate, led by Rob Lehman.
“We’re working with clients who have a deep interest in US trade and other public policies under the Obama administration, and our trade and public policy lawyers provide our clients with valuable insight and advice with respect to this rapidly evolving landscape,” Burlingame commented. Lawyers in the Washington DC office also have deep expertise in a wide range of industries such as communications, energy and health care, in addition to extensive experience in antitrust, litigation and project development finance.
Established in 2001, the Tysons Corner office serves the entire Northern Virginia market, where several major US and multinational companies have headquarters. Lawyers in this office work with clients on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, government contracting, litigation and real estate matters.
“Our firm is committed to this high-growth area, and we look forward to expanding our services to meet the region’s needs,” Thomas said.
