In a double success for Hammonds LLP, the firm's corporate team in Leeds won the 'Corporate Law Firm of the Year' and corporate partner and head of the Leeds office, Jonathan Jones, was named 'Corporate Lawyer of the Year' at the Yorkshire Dealmakers Awards 2009, hosted by Yorkshire Business Insider.
The awards reflected the corporate team's work on a number of high profile deals in the Yorkshire market, including the management buy-out of Quantum Specials, a transaction that won the 'Deal of the Year' award category.
People voting for the award included members of the non-legal advisor community, such as financial advisors and venture capitalists, who took into account a range of factors, including track record of deals, commercial acumen and professionalism.
Yorkshire Business Insider, commenting on the Corporate Law Firm of the Year Award, said: "The legal industry was hit as hard as any in 2009, with corporate-finance teams commonly scaled down, but Hammonds won out. The firm advised on the MBO of Quantum Specials, one of the few private-equity deals done over the year."
When it came to the Corporate Lawyer of the Year Award, they said: "There was a familiar feel to the legal eagles being celebrated this year, but Jonathan Jones stood out ahead of the rest, playing a major part in the Quantum Specials MBO."
The awards were announced at a ceremony at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds on Thursday 19 November.
William Downs, international department head of Corporate Strategy & Finance, said: "Congratulations to the Corporate team and Jonathan Jones. To walk away from the Yorkshire Dealmakers with two awards is a tremendous achievement, and this success has really put our corporate expertise on the map."
