Global law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. advised Almaz Capital Partners, one of the first venture capital funds bringing together Russia and Silicon Valley, on the fund’s bid for European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) investment.
Squire Sanders lawyers Arman Pahlavan and David A. Saltzman, from the firm’s Palo Alto office, worked with Moscow-based lawyer Christopher A. Rose in counseling the fund on the investment bid.
“Our client is drawing on experience its team developed while based in Silicon Valley to target Russia-based technology companies in the telecommunications, digital media and communications industries,” Pahlavan said. “As Squire Sanders is one of the few Silicon Valley law firms able to combine US venture capital savvy with transactional expertise in Russia, this was a great opportunity to help our client obtain this funding and, in doing so, participate in Russia’s growing high-technology sector.”
Almaz Capital Partners plans to add staff in Moscow and in Silicon Valley, where several of the fund’s top executives have been based. The transaction was announced in late December 2009 and is expected to close in March 2010.
