M&A Legal Advisory Review, Thomson Reuters’ annual report on mergers and acquisitions, has ranked global law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. among the top five firms for completed US transactions and the top 15 firms for worldwide transactions.
The firm is ranked fourth in completed US M&A deals and 12th worldwide. The rankings stem from the firm’s global deal roster that includes transactions in Asia, Europe and Latin America, and throughout the United States.
“Our clients were completing transactions in one of the toughest markets in recent history. As a result, our priority with every client was to be as efficient as possible and to develop the most effective strategies to keep deals moving,” said Dynda A. Thomas, head of the Corporate Transactions, Finance & Governance Practice Group. “We are very pleased that we were able to work with such a wide range of clients, and we look forward to advising them on future deals.”
Representative work includes the US$2.4 billion acquisition of Cedar Fair, L.P. by Apollo Global Management and advising the US Department of the Treasury in its historic Troubled Asset Recovery Program. Lawyers and staff from nearly all the firm’s offices advised on an exceedingly complex transaction on behalf of Olympus Corporation that spanned 26 countries and involved 30 client entities. The firm also advised on the largest sale-leaseback ever concluded in Central and Eastern Europe, and closed the deal on the landmark sale of C.A. Fabrica Nacional de Cementos owned by Lafarge of France, making Lafarge the only one of three transnational companies nationalized by Venezuela’s government in 2008 to negotiate terms and avoid arbitration.
