Hammonds LLP is expanding its planning team with the hire in London of the former head of planning and environment at Mishcon de Reya, Oliver Goodwin. At the same time, the firm is boosting its City real estate practice with the appointment of a new partner, Patrick Ryan and a senior consultant, Simon Taylor.
Planning partner and barrister Oliver Goodwin is widely recognised as a leading planning lawyer. Oliver advises developers, operators, funders and public sector bodies on a wide range of public and private sector projects, and was recognised in the Chambers and Partners 2010 directory, as: "highly proficient in urban regeneration schemes and large scale registration schemes and large scale residential, office, retail and leisure schemes."
Hammonds' 11-strong planning team has a longstanding reputation in the field of town and country planning. The team advises on all aspects of planning law and is recognised as one of the leading practices in relation to energy generation and distribution and compulsory purchase and compensation.
Commenting on Oliver's appointment, head of Real Estate at Hammonds, Liam Buckley said: "Our planning team is extremely successful and we have been looking for some time to find the right person to build on their national achievements within the City. In Oliver we believe we have found an individual with exactly the right blend of ambition and experience to expand our practice in London. We see this as a continuing growth area for the firm."
David Goodman, national head of the Planning Team, said: "We are delighted that Oliver is joining us in London. He will be a great asset to an already strong planning team and will provide particular expertise on development related planning work".
At the same time, Patrick Ryan and Simon Taylor are joining the Hammonds' real estate team in London. Patrick joins the firm from SJ Berwin, where he had been a real estate partner, and Simon, formerly one of the senior partners within Eversheds' national development and regeneration team, joins Hammonds as a consultant.
Patrick has extensive experience across the full spectrum of commercial conveyancing work, covering all aspects of single and portfolio property sale and purchase transactions and landlord and tenant work. He has dealt with many investments in the healthcare sector and PFI transactions and has considerable experience in development work, including mixed use projects.
With over 20 years experience in real estate, with Eversheds and also Edge Ellison (now Hammonds), Simon Taylor has rejoined Hammonds in the capacity of a national consultant. Simon has acted across the full spectrum of property development work, including a significant number of town centre mixed use schemes, and has project managed overseas development projects. Working with the existing real estate team, Simon's remit is to build the Hammonds brand within the development market, particularly with regard to positioning the firm as the adviser of choice on large scale complex developments.
Liam Buckley commented: "The appointments of Patrick, Simon and Oliver, three highly skilled and experienced lawyers, will ensure we are well positioned to take advantage of an upturn in demand for real estate services as the market improves. We believe that boosting our team at this critical time will enable us to be quick out of the blocks as activity returns and we anticipate further growth of the practice in the coming year."
