Hammonds LLP, the international law firm, announced today that Jane Haxby has been elected Head of its Manchester Office, with immediate effect.
Haxby, who started at the firm as a trainee in 1993 and became a partner in 2001, has ambitious plans to reinvigorate the firm's Manchester office. She says the office has strong foundations which she plans to build on in the years ahead.
"I am determined to drive the Hammonds brand in Manchester to a stronger platform," said Haxby, "I firmly believe that energy and enthusiasm are key to the firm's success, coupled with a robust approach to business development and profile raising in the city."
Since she started at Hammonds, Haxby has rapidly risen through the ranks in the firm's corporate team and has become national head of the firm's capital markets group advising on IPOs and Secondary Offerings on the principal public equity markets in the UK, continental Europe and Hong Kong and all forms of takeovers of quoted and unquoted public companies.
Her career highlights include advising long-standing client Findel on its £445 million placing and refinancing package, advising Illinois Tool Works on its £1.03bn competitive takeover offer for Enodis plc as well as advising ECI Partners on the £33.2m public to private takeover of Ascribe plc.
The Legal 500 has dubbed her an "excellent and pragmatic lawyer" (2009) and legal directory Chambers & Partners 2009 has praised Jane's ability to provide "fairly simple solutions to fairly complicated problems".
Over the last few years Haxby, who is also trustee on the board of the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, has lead the Manchester office's charities committee which has been involved in fundraising and the firm's various employee volunteering schemes in conjunction with Business in the Community.
In the last year Hammonds' Manchester office has won a significant number of new clients including Freedom Finance, Northern Rock, Orange, the Stobart Group, T-Mobile and the Yorkshire Building Society. Additionally the firm was one of four firms to be appointed to the North West Regional Development Agency's new-look panel as well as being reappointed to a number of panels including the Royal Bank of Scotland Plc, United Utilities Water plc and Barclays Bank Plc.
Over the last 12 months, client highlights from the Manchester office include:
