Hammonds LLP is expanding its Safety Health Environment and Regulatory Group with the appointment of the former national head of the Environment Group and Chemical sector at Eversheds, and two senior environmental lawyers.
David Gordon has joined Hammonds this month as a partner to head the firm's national Environment team from Birmingham. Gordon joined Eversheds in 1993, and was made a partner in 2003. He was appointed national head of the Environment Group in 2007. Anita Lloyd and Caroline Almond, who were Gordon's assistants at Eversheds, have also joined the Hammonds team in Birmingham.
The Eversheds environmental team in the Midlands has been ranked in tier one by Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners for the last four years, and David Gordon is recognised as a leading individual with "particular expertise in operational environmental regulation and brownfield regeneration, as well as various cross-border issues."
A non-contentious environmental specialist, Gordon has considerable experience in waste, energy and chemical regulatory work. With a PhD in Environmental Toxicology, he is a genuine expert in the field and is able to advise clients on both technical and legal issues. He helped a number of International Developers and several Regional Development Agencies develop protocols for the development of brownfield land and was on the steering committee for two multinational chemicals companies during their implementation of REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances).
Anita Lloyd has been recognised by Legal 500 as a notable expert on climate change and emissions trading issues and has extensive experience in contaminated land, waste and environmental permits. Caroline Almond (nee Josephi) has particular expertise in water and infrastructure law together with all environmental issues associated with property and corporate transactional advice, particularly in the food, education and local government sectors.
Commenting on his appointment, Gordon said: "Hammonds is a respected UK-based practice with a high quality national and international client base. I am excited to be joining the firm to assist in developing a quality and profitable environmental offering using the skills that I have developed over the past 10 years.
"In addition, Hammonds' international network will provide the opportunity to develop a cross-border capability, which is highly sought after by many major corporate clients."
Rob Elvin, head of the Safety Health Environmental and Regulatory Group at Hammonds, said: "We are delighted that David, Anita and Caroline have joined the firm. They have considerable experience in growing and developing a successful environmental practice and a track record of good client relationships, which will fit perfectly within our leading Safety, Health, Environment and Licensing teams."
Hammonds Safety Health Environment and Regulatory Group is one of the largest of its kind in the UK and has specialist HSE & Licensing lawyers located throughout the firm's UK and international offices. The team has a well developed insight into the opportunities and challenges facing the chemicals, utilities, construction and engineering sectors and also has cross border transactional experience within North and South America, the Far East and Africa.
