Restructuring lawyer Graeme Levy has joined global law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey as a partner in the London office’s financial services and bankruptcy and restructuring practices. Levy is an experienced and highly acclaimed restructuring counsel whose background will add to the firm’s already sizeable cross-border bankruptcy practice.
“Over the past two years, Squire Sanders has advised a wide range of asset-based lenders, borrowers and financial services institutions affected by the global financial crisis, most notably serving as UK counsel for collapsed Iceland-based bank Landsbanki,” said Joseph P. Markoski, who oversees Squire Sanders’ nine offices throughout Europe. “Given that the global economic recovery will progress at different rates throughout the world, we expect that our clients will continue to need the sophisticated restructuring counsel Graeme will offer.”
“Graeme combines 25 years of experience in nearly every aspect of insolvency and restructuring with extensive expertise in banking and corporate matters. He has a sophisticated and comprehensive grasp of insolvency, restructuring and finance issues that will benefit our diverse client base,” said Stephen D. Lerner, Squire Sanders Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice Group leader. Levy joins Squire Sanders from Olswang LLP, where he was the restructuring and insolvency practice leader for the past 15 years.
Thomas J. Salerno, chair of the firm’s international financial restructuring practice, added: “Graeme’s addition to our London office will further strengthen the firm’s cross-border capabilities, and we are very pleased to expand our cross-border bankruptcy and restructuring team with a practitioner of Graeme’s stature.” Approximately one-quarter of the firm’s bankruptcy and restructuring lawyers have significant experience in cross-border insolvency cases.
Levy said Squire Sanders’ experience with UK-based financial services institutions and transnational bankruptcy experience as well as access to the firm’s bankruptcy and financial services lawyers in Europe, Latin America and the United States allow him to offer clients more comprehensive counsel.
“Simply put, Squire Sanders is an excellent fit both for the more challenging work I hope to do and for my clients’ needs,” Levy said.
