The SHE Group at Hammonds has been chosen as the winner of Corporate INTL magazine's award: "Health & Safety Large Law Firm of the Year".
The team was invited to make a submission to the magazine after it featured in an article about the Health and Safety Lawyers' Association.
The submission focused on the team's market-leading position in the energy generation and distribution sector and on key instructions it received last year in the field of nuclear and renewables work.
Partner Rob Elvin, who heads the SHE Group at Hammonds, said: "We differentiate ourselves from other firms because we work pro-actively. We offer, and receive a lot of instructions, to train our clients to avoid serious incidents and help them stay clear of regulatory intervention. That contrasts to the traditional approach of helping a client reactively after an incident."
Hammonds' Safety, Health and Environment Group (SHE) is one of the largest of its kind in the UK, with specialist HSE lawyers located throughout the firm's UK and international offices. Clients include National Grid, Michelin and British Energy.
The SHE team has a well-developed insight into the opportunities and challenges facing the chemicals, utilities, construction and engineering sectors and also has cross border transactional experience within North and South America, the Far East and Africa. The team also operates an on-site 24 hour response service and has an emergency injunctions application team.
Last month the team's Environment practice was boosted by the arrival of David Gordon, the former head of the Environmental Group at Eversheds, and two assistants.
