Carlos J. Deupi has joined Squire, Sanders & Dempsey’s Miami office, strengthening the legal practice’s ability to work with clients based throughout Florida, Latin America and Spain.
“Carlos has wide-ranging cross-border transaction experience that includes advising clients with interests in the dynamic Latin America market,” said Paul A. O’Hop, who is Squire Sanders’ Regional Coordinator for Latin America. Deupi joins Squire Sanders from Hogan Lovells and is of counsel.
Deupi’s transaction work includes US and cross-border mergers and acquisitions and private equity investment transaction development. He represents foreign investors regarding the acquisition of US-based businesses and advises US-based and multinational companies on acquisitions and dispositions throughout Latin America.
Luis Reiter, Miami office managing partner, said Deupi’s background complements the experience of Squire Sanders’ South Florida corporate finance lawyers who routinely advise on multimillion dollar financings including energy financings in the renewable sector.
Deupi said his move was strongly influenced by Squire Sanders’ broad presence in Latin America, as well as its combination with Hammonds LLP. The combination took effect January 1, 2011, creating connections between lawyers in Spain, Florida and the Squire Sanders Legal Counsel Worldwide Network, which includes six affiliated firms throughout Latin America.
“Squire Sanders leads other major legal practices when it comes to geographic reach throughout Latin America,” Deupi said. “The combination means Squire Sanders is poised to advise clients with more cross-border matters in Latin America, Spain and the United States.”
Deupi was named to Florida’s Legal Elite by Florida Trend magazine. He frequently publishes and lectures on business issues in the United States and Latin America. He is the chair of the Miami Finance Forum, a nonprofit trade association of investment and finance professionals in South Florida. He is a member of several committees and sections of the American Bar Association and a member of the International Section of The Florida Bar.
