In a July 26 article, DC Senior Policy Advisor Norma Krayem told Bloomberg BNA that a non-regulatory cybersecurity bill aiming to authorize the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to facilitate the development of voluntary cybersecurity standards for the private sector (among other provisions) would play a key role in prompting the Senate on cybersecurity. The bill (S. 1353) “is a critical jump-start to the process in the Senate to move forward on cybersecurity,” Ms. Krayem said in the piece. “Both the administration and the private sector have said that Congress still needs to act on key aspects of cybersecurity.”
