Lawyers for Children America (LFCA) has honored both the Squire Sanders Miami office and partner Lew Murphy with the John Edward Smith Advocacy Award at the organization’s annual awards luncheon. LFCA is a leading, non-profit child advocacy organization that provides pro bono representation to children who are victims of abuse, abandonment, and neglect.
Each year, LFCA honors individual lawyers and law firms for the commitment and dedication to the organization. The Miami office was recognized for its consistent support of the organization for 15 years as well as for providing the organization office space and other in-kind support.
Mr. Murphy, who recently became an LFCA board member and has been an LFCA pro bono lawyer for six years, was recognized for his ongoing efforts on behalf of two brothers who were initially removed from their homes and placed in foster care after sustaining second and third degree burns when scalded with boiling water. Mr. Murphy has also accepted judicial appointments to help infants in the custody of non-relative caregivers.
