DC partner Andrew Friedman predicted a so-called fixer in a large municipal bond bid-rigging case would not receive the 15-to-19-year prison term dictated by Department of Justice sentencing guidelines. “I think the 15 to 19 is excessive,” said Mr. Friedman in a Policy and Regulatory Report (subscription required) article, adding “I would be surprised if he gets house arrest even when his cooperation is taken into account.” Still, Mr. Friedman pointed out the unique nature of the alleged fixer in the February 5, 2014 piece, claiming he was “at the top of the heap” in the municipal bond industry and his status makes the case difficult to predict.
