Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce that Thomas Kibbey has rejoined the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group as a partner in the Columbus office. Mr. Kibbey comes from Tim Horton Inc., a Canadian multinational fast casual restaurant, where he served as US Corporate Counsel.
“We are thrilled to welcome Tom back to the firm,” said Alex Shumate, Managing Partner, North America of Squire Patton Boggs. “Tom brings a diverse background spanning all aspects of real estate transactions and finance-related matters, as well as valuable in-house experience that will benefit our clients across the country.”
Mr. Kibbey has extensive experience in general real estate matters (acquisitions, sales, leasing, entitlements, development, financing, and related issues), partnerships, and mortgage and equity financing. He handles complex real estate transactions, including such transactions involving equity and debt financing for projects receiving federal and/or state low income housing tax credits, historic rehabilitation tax credits, and new market tax credits. During his prior 10 years with Squire Patton Boggs, Mr. Kibbey served as the lead real estate point person on a number of highly complex new markets tax credit transactions.
During his tenure at Tim Hortons, Mr. Kibbey represented the company in all US real estate matters, including leasing, acquisition, due diligence, property management and disposition as well as in other general corporate legal work.
“I look forward to welcoming Tom back to our real estate team,” said Mike Saad, senior partner at Squire Patton Boggs. “He has an incredibly well-rounded background that encompasses real estate, housing and new markets tax credits, public finance, and health care experience. His substantial knowledge will add depth to our real estate practice and complement the forward momentum in our US offices.”
Mr. Kibbey is the fifth partner appointed by the Squire Patton Boggs Global Real Estate Practice Group so far in 2014, with Andrew Walker joining as the new UK Head of Real Estate Litigation in Birmingham, Rachel Orton and Gary Paddison joining the London real estate team, and Alison Hardy joining the London real estate litigation practice. Mr. Kibbey is also the third US partner Squire Patton Boggs has hired since the combination between Squire Sanders and Patton Boggs went into effect on June 1, following the appointment of Kenji Funahashi and Hiroki Suyama as partners in the Global Corporate Practice.
