Squire Patton Boggs recently hosted a seminar convened by the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators on developments in judicial and arbitration practice in mainland China. Guest speaker was the Honourable Justice Gao Xiaoli, a judge from the Supreme People’s Court of China.
Justice Gao has received awards from the Supreme People’s Court and is noted for several landmark rulings related to arbitration handed down by China’s highest court.
Peter Chow, partner and head of the International Dispute Resolution Practice (Asia) at Squire Patton Boggs, said: "There are many misconceptions regarding the judicial practice in mainland China. The seminar included a lively roundtable discussion that I believe helped the delegates to gain a deeper understanding of the arbitration procedures in China and the perspective of the Chinese courts."
Squire Patton Boggs' Hong Kong office has hosted a number of seminars on arbitration, including talks by well-known arbitrators, academics and a former High Court Judge of Hong Kong. The firm’s Asian offices have been involved in many international arbitration matters, including those involving China.
