Squire Patton Boggs has announced that Katie Novaria has joined the firm’s Public Policy Practice as an advisor in the Washington DC office.
Ms Novaria joins the firm from the United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where she has worked since January 2011. She served most recently as professional staff member to the Subcommittee on Health, and previously as legislative clerk. In this capacity, she has worked on over 20 pieces of health legislation and planned hearings focused on public health, health insurance and Medicare. A respected figure in healthcare policy, she has addressed the National Patient Advocate Foundation, the American Association of Medical Colleges, the Association of Academic Health Centers, and others, on legislative priorities.
Before joining the House Committee, Ms Novaria worked in the offices of both Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Congressman Joe Knollenberg (R-MI). She is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Ms Novaria said: “I look forward to working with the incredible team at Squire Patton Boggs, bringing my experience on the Hill and of healthcare policy and legislation to the group. Given the many changes facing the healthcare sector, it is an exciting time to be joining the practice.”
Senator Trent Lott, Co-Chair of the Public Policy Practice at Squire Patton Boggs, said: “Katie is a respected congressional healthcare policy professional on Capitol Hill, with nearly a decade of Hill experience. Katie’s well-known experience will be of great benefit to our global client base, as we continue to grow our Public Policy Practice with strategic hires.”
“The House Energy and Commerce Committee staff is widely regarded as one of the best committee staffs on the Hill, and Katie played a key role in some of its most important achievements during her time with the House,” said former Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT), a Squire Patton Boggs principal who served on the committee during his time in the House. “Katie earned the respect of members and fellow staff on both sides of the aisle with her work for Chairman Upton, and she’s a great addition to our team.”
"Katie Novaria is one of the brightest policy minds in the health arena and has been a valued member of the Energy and Commerce team,” said Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI). “As they say, the proof is in the pudding – we've had great success in passing a number of important laws to improve public health, and the majority have Katie’s fingerprints on them."
Ms Novaria is the most recent addition to the firm’s preeminent Public Policy Practice. Meg Gilley, previously congressional lobbyist for the American College of Surgeons, joined the firm in January. Mayte Gutierrez joined the International Public Policy Practice in August, previously working as congressional affairs liaison at the Embassy of Mexico in Washington.
