Jeffrey M. Schagren has joined Squire Patton Boggs as of counsel in the firm’s Real Estate Practice. Mr. Schagren will head the firm’s North America Hospitality practice, having most recently served as General Counsel and Regional Human Resources Leader (CHRO) of Accor Business and Leisure North America, Inc., a subsidiary of Accor SA, one of the largest hotel companies in the world with a portfolio including Fairmont, Raffles and Swissôtel.
In step with the firm’s strategic buildout and commitment to the global hospitality industry, Mr. Schagren follows the arrival of Jose Martin, former Director of Compliance – Americas and French Polynesia at Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc., who joined the firm in October 2016 in Miami and Rahul Parrab, who joined the firm in September 2016 in Sydney.

At Accor, Mr. Schagren directed all legal issues, including development, risk management, M&A and negotiating and drafting sales, franchising and management agreements for the North America, Central America and Caribbean region of one of the largest hotel companies in the world. Among his notable achievements, Mr. Schagren was a member of the legal team and played an important regional role on Accor’s US$2.7 billion acquisition of FRHI Holdings LTD. He was also a key participant in the successful US$1.9 billion divestiture of Motel 6 from Accor to Blackstone. Prior to Accor, Mr. Schagren served as associate general counsel and director of compliance of 20/20 Companies, one of the country’s largest direct sales force and management solution providers. He also previously held executive positions in the hospitality and housing sectors at LQ Management LLC (La Quinta Inns and Suites) and in the retail sector in executive positions with Hechinger/Home Quarters/Builders Square, as well as in the public sector at the Montgomery County Human Relations Commission and New York City Department of Sanitation.

Mr. Schagren sat on the North Texas Chapter Board of Trustees for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and was a member of the Human Resources Task Force and Workforce Enrichment Council for the Greater Irving Chamber of Commerce. He graduated from the New York University with a B.A. in Journalism, and received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. Mr. Schagren is admitted to practice in Texas, New York, Connecticut, Maryland and associated federal district courts.
