The Bond Buyer, the leading national public finance industry publication, has named Squire Patton Boggs partner Pedro Hernández to the 2017 class of Rising Stars, which identified municipal finance professionals under the age of 40 whose leadership, collaborative spirit, innovation and creativity have enabled them to make a positive contribution to the community. Mr. Hernández is one of only four lawyers recognized this year across the country.
Mr. Hernández, a partner in the firm's Public & Infrastructure Finance Practice, has more than a decade of experience in the municipal bond sector. Within the past year, he has handled more than US$2.7 billion worth of transactions, acting as bond counsel, disclosure counsel and underwriter counsel. In his profile, The Bond Buyer notes that Mr. Hernández primarily works on new issues, including "new-money, refunding, general obligation, revenue obligations, and other tax-based financings." These bonds have financed a range of projects, including water and sewer facilities, educational facilities, seaports, health care facilities, electric facilities and other infrastructure improvements.
In addition to his practice, Mr. Hernández does pro bono work for the Legal Task Force of the South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Additionally, he sits of the board of directors for Voices for Children, a nonprofit that connects lawyers with abused or neglected children and who will advocate on their behalf in court for permanency, services, and safety.
Mr. Hernández is the previous recipient of the Daily Business Review's "Dealmaker of the Year" Award in 2012 and 2015.
