Squire Patton Boggs partner Alain Farhad has been appointed to serve as a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR.
Mr. Farhad joins a team comprising members from more than 90 countries, including practicing lawyers, arbitrators, mediators, in-house counsel and law professors. The Commission produces reports and guidelines on legal, procedural and practical aspects of dispute resolution. In its research capacity, it proposes new policies and tools to innovate and promote the efficient and cost effective resolution of disputes. Together with the ICC Court it also drafts and revises the various ICC rules for dispute resolution, such as the ICC Rules of Arbitration and the ICC Mediation Rules.
Mr. Farhad has acted in more than 40 international arbitration proceedings under the ICC, ICSID, DIAC and UNCITRAL rules. He is often appointed as sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator or chairman of arbitral tribunals in international arbitration proceedings. Fluent in English, French and Farsi, Mr. Farhad is admitted to the bars of the State of New York, Paris, and the DIFC Courts in Dubai. He also serves on the Steering Committee of the ICC UAE arbitration commission.

Other partners from the firm currently serving in membership roles at the ICC include Stephan Adell, who was appointed a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in 2015 and George von Mehren, who is a US representative to the ICC Commission on Arbitration. The former Deputy Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, José Ricardo Feris, joined the firm as a partner in July of this year.
