Squire Patton Boggs has advised on two transactions included in India Business Law Journal’s list of landmark deals and disputes from 2018.
The featured transactions are:
Coal India Limited’s US$750 million offer for sale. Squire Patton Boggs advised the brokers Axis Capital, Kotak Mahindra Capital, ICICI Securities, SBI Capital Markets and JM Financial on the deal, which was the largest divestment transaction by the government in 2018. Corporate partner and co-head of the firm’s India Practice Biswajit Chatterjee advised on the deal, assisted by senior associate Kaustubh George and associates Anandee Banerji and Nabil Shadab.
Raksha Energy’s US$100 million acquisition of Mytrah Energy shares on AIM. The firm advised Raksha Energy on the acquisition, which was one of the largest outbound M&A acquisitions of the year, implemented by a takeover offer governed by the UK Takeover Code. Mytrah Energy is a large independent power producer in the Indian renewable energy sector, with a portfolio of 1,743MW of installed and under construction renewable power projects across nine Indian states (Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu). It also has one of the largest wind data banks in India, with more than 200 wind mast locations across the country. Corporate partner Trevor Ingle leads the relationship with the client, with Corporate partner Andrew Glaze and Financial Services partner John Hayward advising on the acquisition.
