Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce the appointment of Ivan Chia as a partner into the firm’s Corporate Practice and Commodities and Shipping Industry Group. Mr. Chia was previously a partner at HFW and Watson, Farley & Williams.

Mr. Chia’s arrival follows that of Australia Litigation partner Hazel Brewer, who joined the firm a few days earlier. He becomes the fifth partner to join the Commodities and Shipping Industry Group this year, alongside Ms. Brewer, Robert Parson (London), D. Michael Kaye (Washington DC) and Kate Sherrard (Singapore).

Dual-qualified in Singapore and England, Mr. Chia is a transactional specialist, with a particular focus on international energy, renewables and infrastructure projects. He has advised on the development, procurement, joint venture and M&A transactions for significant projects involving onshore and offshore wind farms, utility scale and commercial and industrial solar PV projects, ports, LNG and petrochemical plants, offshore and floating energy assets and other infrastructure projects across Asia.

“Ivan is a key addition for us in Singapore. With his connections across the region, Ivan will play a significant role in the further growth of our Asia Pacific Corporate and Projects practices, as well as adding greater depth to our global Commodities and Shipping team,” said Barry Stimpson, Singapore office managing partner and co-head of the Commodities and Shipping Industry Group.

“Ivan’s arrival will also present significant opportunities for our other practices, including restructuring, finance, construction and disputes, reinforcing our existing relationships as well as giving us access to important new clients and transactions.”

Stephen Chelberg, Asia Pacific chair of the global Corporate Practice, added: “Ivan is a highly regarded corporate lawyer. He has known a number of our partners for many years, having worked with corporate colleagues Brian Gordon in Singapore and Simon Adams in Australia, as well as members of our global Commodities & Shipping team. We believe Ivan is a good fit and are delighted to welcome him to our team.”
