Squire Patton Boggs has appointed Shamsun Nahar as a legal director in its Financial Services Practice, specialising in derivatives and structured finance. Ms. Nahar joins the firm in London from Latham & Watkins.

Ms. Nahar has extensive experience working on high-value derivatives and structured finance transactions across all asset classes for a wide range of clients, including financial institutions, corporates and banks. This includes acting as the lead advisor on domestic and cross border transactions involving derivatives, repurchase (repos), margin loans and Islamic Finance derivatives products. Ms. Nahar also advises on derivatives related to wider financing transactions, such as leveraged, project and infrastructure financing, asset backed financing, restructuring and banking transactions. She has previously completed secondments with leading international banks.

“Shamsun’s multi-disciplinary finance and banking law expertise make her a great addition to our practice as we continue to expand to meet our client’s diverse needs,” commented Paula Laird, who leads the European Financial Services Practice.

James Barresi head of the global Financial Services Practice added: “Shamsun is part of our plan to continue to develop our derivatives and structured finance practice following the appointment of Leona McManus in London and Andrea Dinamarco and Robert Lendino in the US, while strengthening our international offering and our capabilities in Islamic Finance derivatives products. Shamsun’s experience is beneficial to clients operating across regions, including in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia. We are delighted to welcome her to the team.”

“I am very pleased to join Squire Patton Boggs. The firm has been investing in its derivatives and structured finance practice and wider financial services practice and I am excited to be part of its plans,” commented Ms. Nahar.

Other recent additions to the global Financial Services Practice include derivatives and structured finance partner Leona McManus, who joined in London from Shearman & Sterling, Nima Fath who joined the firm in Dubai from Jones Day, Andrea Dinamarco in Atlanta, who joined from Reed Smith, and Lian Yok Tan, who joined in Singapore from K&L Gates.
