Diego Capistrano works closely with lawyers of the firm's Corporate Practice Group to represent the interests of international clients in matters relating to Latin America.

    Prior to joining the firm, Diego was a partner in a leading Brazilian firm, where he represented domestic and international clients in civil litigation and provided advice in commercial transactions in a range of industries. He also has experience advising clients in regulatory and bankruptcy matters.

    Diego is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, the State Bar of Texas, and the Brazilian Bar Association.

    He is a native speaker of Portuguese and is fluent in English. Diego is admitted in Brazil and in the State of Texas.

    • Successfully representing Brazil’s largest telecommunication company in a US$20 billion judicial reorganization proceeding, resulting in the approval of the reorganization plan. The claim was the largest ever filed in Latin America and had international implications, primarily in the Netherlands and in the US.
    • Representing Brazil’s largest telecommunication company in claims brought before Brazilian courts due to fines of more than US$3 billion imposed by the Brazilian Federal Telecommunication Agency.
    • Representing a telecommunication company in arbitration before the FGV Chamber of Mediation & Arbitration located in Brazil to prevent a counterparty disrupting the mobile roaming service provided by the client for its consumers visiting the US. The claim was worth more than US$242 million.
    • Acting as outside general counsel for a Brazil-based seaport terminal company, mainly providing assistance in contract and regulatory matters.
    • Drafting and negotiating service agreements and engineering, procurement and construction agreements for construction companies.
    • Successfully represented construction companies in civil actions related to environmental issues.
    • Successfully represented clients in credit collection lawsuits.
