Andrew Chapman undertakes a wide variety of real estate work with a particular emphasis on commercial property finance and insolvency.

    Andrew’s practice provides client-focused advice to some of the UK’s leading clearing and private banks and alternative financiers in relation to the taking, subsequent protection and enforcement of security over property in England and Wales. He has experience in a number of multimillion-pound property security transactions for such financial institutions.

    Andrew has also assisted both the UK’s “Big Four” and mid-market insolvency practitioners in relation to property matters, most commonly where the relevant debtor/occupier is insolvent and acting through an administrator, liquidator, receiver or trustee in bankruptcy. Andrew is familiar with the forms and structures of all such insolvency-based transactions.

    Andrew’s general real estate portfolio work has seen him carry out a wide variety of investment activities for some of the UK’s largest institutional property developers and investors. Andrew also has particular experience in acting for corporate occupiers in sale and purchase or lease negotiations for properties valued in excess of £1 million.

    • Advising Investec on its financing of the purchase of 14 separate commercial properties by a major South African investor.
    • Advising all major UK clearing banks on financing or refinancing of high value property assets.
    • Acting for a leading multinational conference, meeting and event company on the acquisition of four key central London sites, including its new international headquarters.
    • Acting for a major UK developer on all of its infrastructure and utility agreements at a high-profile mixed-use development site in north west London.
    • Advising on the sales of three leading English football clubs and proposed purchase of another, all with stadium and other commercial property arrangements and/or training ground issues.
    • Leading the Real Estate team on two large (100 unit plus) retail administrations and acting for administrators on the sale of Austin Reed’s Regent Street store.
