Aline Doussin is a partner in the firm's International Trade Practice, specialising in international trade (including export control and sanctions), EU regulatory and investigations, and public policy. Aline's experience is derived from her similar previous position in a major international law firm, and from her former roles at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva and as an in-house lawyer in Japan Tobacco International (JTI).

Aline’s practice focusses on acting for a wide range of businesses, governments and trade associations on international trade and EU regulatory affairs including:

  • Sanctions and export controls specialist services:
    • Compliance advice on the implementation of export control and sanctions obligations
    • Internal investigations to ascertain potential violations of export control and sanctions laws
    • Disclosure to EU regulators
    • Defence before the national regulators including at the EU level
  • Advice on EU regulatory matters (e.g. CE marking and product harmonisation legislation, pre-market regulatory approvals, standards, labelling) in a variety of specialised sector areas:
    • Data protection and cybersecurity
    • Life sciences including medical devices and biotechnology
    • Food and drink
    • Cosmetics
  • Advice to third country governments on international law issues, including:
    • Negotiation of free trade agreements
    • Legislative drafting and parliamentary amendments drafting
    • Rule of law training to foreign governments and parliamentarians

In addition, Aline has a specialised focus on trade law (WTO, EU trade and trade defence instruments, market access) and general government affairs and media/communication services.

Aline has been listed as a recommended trade and public affairs lawyer in The Legal 500 UK and Chambers UK. She is mentioned in a number of articles on international trade and EU regulatory issues, and featured on French International Radio and French national newspapers.

Aline is active in a number of business and political organizations. She is an appointed expert to the EU Lawyers' committee of the Conseil des Barreaux Européens (CCBE), and a member of the editorial board of the International Trade Law and Regulation Journal (ITLR). She organises networking events for French lawyers based in London and ran as a candidate in London for the 2014 European Parliament Elections.

Aline is recognised by Chambers UK 2015 as a Rising Star in the lobbying arena. Clients note she has "a great handle on the competencies and the anticipated behaviour of the organisations involved."

  • Advising on an internal investigation and self-disclosure to EU competent regulators in relation to export control and sanctions concerns.
  • Advising a US manufacturer on pan-European CE marking investigations derived from the application of the Low Voltage, the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive and the Machinery Directives.
  • Advising a US food start-up company on the EU Novel Food laws, and the application of pan-EU Health Claims rules.
  • Advising drinks manufacturer on compliance with regulatory issues (import, export, country of origin, labelling and advertising) for intra-EU sales and the application of EU free-movement of goods to their processes.
  • Advising a number of businesses on in the IT, financial services, retail and manufacturing sectors on export control and sanctions compliance.
  • Advising a number of clients in respect to Brexit contingency planning, and impact of tariffs and trade barriers to intra-EU movement of goods.
  • Providing legal, technical and strategic advice to a major South Asia government client in relation to securing improved market access to the European Union.
  • Advising multinational companies on compliance programmes, internal policy and risk procedure.
  • Advising a major financial services company on multijurisdictional compliance with European data protection and privacy issues.
